Iran Tests Its Own Nuclear Fuel
Iran has said its scientists have tested the first nuclear fuel rod that is made from uranium inside the country. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation website said: "After going through physical checks, it was inserted into the core of the Tehran…reactor…to study how well it works.” Western governments never thought Iran’s engineers could do this. They believe Iran wants to use uranium to build nuclear weapons. Iran’s government has said for the past decade its nuclear sites are for energy only.
Iran is under a lot of international pressure not to produce nuclear missiles. On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama created new laws that targeted Iran's central bank. America wants the world to stop trading with Iran unless it allows experts into the country to check the nuclear plants. In a related story, Iran also tested a new missile on Sunday. The medium-range missile can fly without radars seeing it. The test was part of a 10-day exercise in the Gulf that also increased tensions with the U.S.
